👋 List-unsubscribe header
What is a list-unsubscribe header?
A list-unsubscribe header, also referred to as "one-click unsubscribe", is an email header that includes detailed instructions about a brand's unsubscribe process. Popular email providers, such as Gmail, Outlook, iOS Mail, and Yahoo! Mail, use this information to display an additional unsubscribe link in their inboxes.
Here is an example of what a list-unsubscribe header looks like in Gmail ➡️. |
What are the benefits of a list-unsubscribe header?
A list-unsubscribe header lets recipients unsubscribe easily, without having to open the email or look for an unsubscribe link. There are two main reasons to make it simpler for contacts to opt-out of your emails:
-
Less spam complaints
When someone wants to unsubscribe but doesn't easily find an unsubscribe link, they are more likely to mark your emails as spam. By making it easy to unsubscribe, you can protect your sender reputation and maintain high email deliverability rates. -
Compliance with email regulations
A list-unsubscribe header ensures compliance with email marketing regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Certified Senders Alliance (CSA). Furthermore, since February 2024, Gmail and Yahoo require that all senders use List-Unsubscribe headers if they send emails to @gmail or @yahoo recipients.
Will my emails sent from Brevo include a list-unsubscribe header?
Yes, Brevo automatically includes a list-unsubscribe header in your email campaigns and transactional emails.
🆘 List-help header
What is a list-help header?
A list-help header is a mailto or https link that can be embedded within your transactional emails. This link leads to a page that may contain an unsubscribe form, reasons why the recipient received the email, instructions on how to unsubscribe, or explanations as to why unsubscribing may not be possible or necessary (e.g., for password reset emails).
A list-help header can be used in transactional emails only, such as order confirmations, changes to terms and conditions, or privacy-related information, instead of a list-unsubscribe header.
Unlike a list-unsubscribe header, a list-help header never creates a clickable button and can only be viewed in the original email.

What is the purpose of a list-help header?
The list-help header is required if the list-unsubscribe header is removed from transactional emails. This ensures compliance with the Certified Senders Alliance (CSA).
How can I use a list-help header instead of a list-unsubscribe header in my transactional emails sent from Brevo?
The implementation of a list-help header is only possible for transactional emails triggered by the recipient, such as activations emails, order confirmations, or password reset emails. The emails shouldn't contain any promotional content.
