In this article, we will explain how to set up a dedicated IP in Brevo if you are hosting your domain or subdomain on Gandi.
Before you start
- This article is only relevant if your account has been assigned a dedicated IP. To learn more about the pros and cons of getting a dedicated IP, check out our dedicated article Differences between shared and dedicated IPs.
⚠️ Part 1: Setup prerequisite
We highly recommend creating a new subdomain on your main domain that you will associate with your dedicated IP.
⚙️ Part 2: Configure the dedicated IP
Once you have purchased a dedicated IP from your My Plan page, you now need to associate your domain with your dedicated IP to be able to use it and authenticate your domain:
- Click your name on the top-right side of the screen.
- Access Senders & IP.
- Click the Dedicated IPs section.
- Click Associate a domain under the dedicated IP address you want to associate.
- Enter the Domain name to associate with your dedicated IP.
❗️ ImportantThis new domain should only be dedicated to sending your emails on Brevo and shouldn't already be used for something else. In other words, it should not be your website's main domain or a domain used for your webmail or messaging service.
To make sure your brand is recognizable, this new domain should be as similar to your original domain as possible. For example, if your main domain is yoursite.com, check whether yoursite.net is available; if not, you could consider something like yoursite-newsletter.com, or another domain of your choosing, provided that it will not be used for anything other than Brevo.
The necessary DNS records that will help you associate your domain to your dedicated IP now display. You have to choose which method you want to use to associate your domain to your dedicated IP ⬇️.
🚀 Part 3: Choose a method to associate your domain to your dedicated IP
Choose between one of those two methods to set up your dedicated IP in Brevo:
Point a new subdomain to our NS servers
The Simple method is recommended if you use the domain you will associate with this IP only for the sending of emails with Brevo. This method allows you to implement all the records and authentication protocols by setting up two NS records on your web host. We recommend you use this method, as it means that the records on your subdomain will be maintained and continuously updated.
- Open a new window in your navigator and log into your Gandi account.
- In the sidebar menu, click Domain and select your domain.
- Go to the DNS Records tab.
- To add your first NS record, click Add record.
- Select the NS record type.
- Enter the following information:
- TTL and Unit: leave as is.
-
Name:
- For a subdomain, enter its name
- For a domain, enter @ followed by its name
-
Hostname: ns1.brevo.com. (you must include the period at the end of the target)
- Click Create.
- To add your second NS record, click Add record.
- Select the NS record type.
- Enter the following information:
- TTL and Unit: leave as is.
-
Name:
- For a subdomain, enter its name
- For a domain, enter @ followed by its name
-
Hostname: ns2.brevo.com. (you must include the period at the end of the target)
- Click Create.
❗️ ImportantIt may take up to 24-48 hours for DNS changes to propagate fully. - Go back to Brevo and click Verify and associate.
Create DNS entries
The Advanced method is recommended if you use the domain you will associate with this IP with multiple services where you need to add DNS entries. This method is also useful if your web host doesn't allow you to point a new subdomain to our NS servers. You'll need to create new DNS records on your web host.
- Open a new window in your navigator and log into your Gandi account.
- In the sidebar menu, click Domain and select your domain.
- Go to the DNS Records tab.
- To add a DNS record, click Add record. You must create a DNS entry for each type of DNS record you have to configure:
- A record
- MX record
- CNAME record
- CNAME record
- DKIM record
- SPF record
-
In the Name fields, paste the hostnames as they appear under each record in Brevo, respectively. And in the Hostname fields, paste the generated value codes from Brevo under each record, respectively. Leave the TTL and Unit fields as is.
❗️ ImportantThere can only be one SPF record on a given domain or subdomain. If there is already an SPF record, you'll need to combine the value of that existing record with the Brevo value. For more details, check out our dedicated article Merging multiple SPF records. - Click Create.
❗️ ImportantIt may take up to 24-48 hours for DNS changes to propagate fully. - Go back to Brevo and click Verify and associate.
Your dedicated IP is now active!
