New segmentation: what has changed?

In this article, we will explain the differences between the previous Advanced Search and Segmentation feature and our new Segments feature.

Improved design and wording

Segments

Segments come with a new design which gives you more flexibility and allows you to create more modular segments. You now have a clearer view of the different conditions available, and you can use the search bar to quickly find the one you're looking for.

The wording has also been improved and simplified in all languages so that segments are easily understandable, even if they contain multiple conditions.

More segmentation options

The new Segments feature offers more segmentation options for you to go even further and be able to segment your contacts even more precisely.

Here are some examples of new segmentation conditions, operators, and parameters:

Conditions

The new segmentation supports more conditions to segment your contacts and is based on the apps you've enabled on your Brevo account, which means that some conditions might not be available if you've not enabled the corresponding app.

WhatsApp (subscribed/blocklisted, opened/not opened, etc.)

  Web push (subscribed/blocklisted)

Ecommerce (order placed/no order placed, article added to cart/no article added to cart)

Meetings (meetings booked/canceled, etc.)

Operators for contact details

The new segmentation supports more operators for contact details to narrow your search even further.

Better management of segments

You can now easily create and manage all your segments from the Segments page:

Segments can be duplicated and organized by categories. Filters couldn't (could only be edited and deleted). You can now quickly view the conditions in a segment, whereas before, you had to open the filter (multiple clicks needed).

FAQs: New segmentation and old search filters

Can I still use custom attributes to segment contacts?

You can still use custom attributes with Segments. All existing and new custom attributes are available in the list of conditions you can choose from.

Can I still use my previously saved filters and dynamic lists?

Your filters and dynamic lists are now available as non-editable segments and stored under the Archived Filters and Dynamic Lists Filters categories. They are updated in real-time like any other segment, and you can use them to segment the recipients of an email campaign, as an entry point in a workflow, etc. If you need to edit them, you will need to recreate them as a new segment and replace them anywhere they might be used. To learn more, check our dedicated article Can I still use my previously saved filters and dynamic lists in the new contact listing page?.

Will my existing automation workflows using filters be impacted?

Existing workflows using filters will not be impacted, and you can still use your previously saved filters in Automation. However, we recommend you use segments for all your new workflows.
