Classic editor - Automatically blocklist contacts from both your email campaigns and transactional emails

This article refers to the classic automation editor. To learn more about the new automation editor, check our dedicated article About the new automation editor.

If a contact unsubscribes from your transactional emails, you may also wish to blocklist them from your email campaigns, and vice-versa. You can achieve this by creating the two automations described below. These will automatically blocklist contacts who unsubscribe from one type of email from the other type as well.

If a contact unsubscribes from transactional emails then blocklist them from email campaigns

In this case, contacts who unsubscribe from your transactional emails will also be automatically blocklisted from your email campaigns. They will no longer receive either your transactional emails or your email campaigns.

Create your automation

  1. Go to Automations.
  2. Click + Create an automation.
  3. Click Use the classic editor.
  4. Name your automation.
  5. Optional: Add a description for your automation.
  6. Activate the option Allow your contacts to enter the automation more than once.
  7. Click Create automation.

Step 1: Entry point - Transactional Email Activity (Unsubscribed)

  1. Click Add an entry point.
  2. Select Email Activity > Transactional Email Activity.

  3. Select Unsubscribed.
  4. Select All Templates/Tags. You can also select a specific template or tag if needed.

  5. Click OK.

Step 2: Action - Blocklist a contact (Marketing Communications)

  1. Click + under the entry point.
  2. Select Blocklist a contact > For Marketing Communications.

  3. Click OK.

Activate your automation

To activate your automation and start blocklisting contacts, click Activate automation.

If a contact unsubscribes from email campaigns then blocklist them from transactional emails

In this case, contacts who unsubscribe from your email campaigns will also be automatically blocklisted from your transactional emails (for a specific sender or all senders). They will no longer receive either your email campaigns or your transactional emails.

Create your automation

  1. Go to Automations.
  2. Click + Create an automation.
  3. Click Use the classic editor.
  4. Name your automation.
  5. Optional: Add a description for your automation.
  6. Activate the option Allow your contacts to enter the automation more than once.
  7. Click Create automation.

  1. Click Add an entry point.
  2. Select Email Activity > Email Marketing Activity.

  3. Select Unsubscribed.
  4. Select All Templates/Tags. You can also select a specific template or tag if needed.

  5. Click OK.

Step 2: Action - Blocklist a contact (Transactional Emails)

  1. Click + under the entry point.
  2. Select Blocklist a contact > For Transactional Emails.

  3. Select the sender(s) from whom the contacts should be blocklisted. You can choose as many senders as needed by clicking the + icon and selecting the sender from the dropdown menu.

  4. Click OK.

Activate your automation

To activate your automation and start blocklisting contacts, click Activate automation.
