The Conditional split rule lets you create advanced automations by directing contacts down different paths based on their details and behavior. Contacts who match a branch’s condition will move through that path, while those who don’t match any of the defined conditions will continue through the final branch.
How does a conditional split work in an automation?
When a contact reaches a conditional split, Brevo will check if they meet any of the conditions you set in the branches of the split. Contacts will then proceed through different steps based on the branch they are assigned to.

Add a conditional split to an automation
To add a conditional split to an automation:
- In an automation created using the new editor, open the Rules tab.
- Add the Conditional split step where you want to create the split. You can add it at the end of the sequence or insert it between existing steps.
💡 Good to knowIf you insert a conditional split between existing steps, the steps below the split will automatically be placed in Branch A. You can move them to another branch manually if needed.
- (Optional) Click Add branch to add more branches to the split.
✅ Plan availabilityAdding more branches to a conditional split is available only on the Professional or Enterprise plans, where you can create up to 10 branches. For more information, check our pricing page or get in touch with our Sales team. - Under each branch, click Add filter to define the condition that determines which contacts enter it. Contacts who meet the condition of a branch will follow that specific branch, while those who don’t match any conditions will automatically continue through the default branch.
💡 Good to knowThe default branch has no conditions. Any contacts who don’t match the other branches will enter this one. - (Optional) Click the pen icon 🖊️ next to a branch name to rename it and make it easier to recognize.
