Introduction to dedicated IPs

If you are considering purchasing a dedicated IP or if you're ready to set one up in Brevo, we understand that you may have questions about how to get started.

What is a dedicated IP?

Let's start with the basics of IPs and how they are used for sending emails. An IP is a unique address that can send and receive digital information, such as emails.

Email service providers, including Brevo, often use their own group of IP addresses to send emails on behalf of their users. These are considered shared IPs since they deploy emails from many different organizations.

Unlike a shared IP, a dedicated IP is assigned to one single organization and is only used to send that organization's emails.

Do I need to use a dedicated IP? How will it affect my emails?

💡 Good to know
Some Brevo users may be asked to switch from a shared IP to a dedicated IP to maintain our shared IPs' positive reputation. This usually happens if their emails are underperforming and affecting others.

At Brevo, our team is committed to building a positive reputation for our shared IPs. This ensures that the emails sent from these IPs are well received and delivered to ISPs (Internet Service Providers) like Gmail and Yahoo. An IP gains a positive reputation by sending emails that ISPs deem trustworthy. These emails are rarely marked as spam or sent to invalid addresses, but are often opened and clicked by recipients.

However, if you regularly send large volumes of emails, a dedicated IP can help you better build and maintain your own reputation with ISPs. We recommend using a dedicated IP if:

  • You send at least three email campaigns per week to 3,000 or more contacts,
  • OR you send over 100,000 emails per month, with no gaps longer than a week between sends.

    ❗️ Important

In the first few weeks after getting your dedicated IP, you'll need to send email campaigns daily or every other day to at least 3,000 contacts. This will help warm up your IP.

However, if you only send emails once or twice a month to a few thousand contacts, a shared IP might be a more suitable option.

How do I purchase and set up my dedicated IP?

💡 Good to know
Dedicated IPs are included at no additional cost with an Enterprise plan.

You can purchase a dedicated IP directly from your Brevo account and set it up afterward. Setting up a dedicated IP involves a few steps, such as associating it with a subdomain and gradually warming it up to ensure optimal deliverability.
