Why is my WhatsApp template being rejected?

All your WhatsApp templates need to be approved by Meta before they can be sent to your contacts.

When accessing your list of WhatsApp templates, if you see the status Rejected below your template name, it means that your template has been rejected by Meta:

To be able to send your template to your contacts, you will need to check the reason for the rejection, edit your template, and submit it to Meta for approval again.

What are the reasons for a template rejection?

There are multiple reasons for which your WhatsApp template may have been rejected. Some of the most common reasons are:

  • Content violates WhatsApp Business Policy, including cold messages and the request for sensitive identifiers from contacts.
  • Content related to goods or services prohibited by the WhatsApp commerce policy
  • Content is abusive, threatening, or sexually explicit
  • Content is a political campaign messaging.
  • Content contains link shorteners such as bit.ly.
  • Content contains spelling or grammar mistakes.
  • Language used in the template does not correspond to the language selected at setup. For example, if your template is written in French, but you selected English during the setup.
  • Content does not match the template category selected during the setup. For example, if you selected the Utility category but wrote marketing content.
  • Template name is similar to "Test campaign".
  • Variable parameters to personalize the WhatsApp message are not set properly. For example, you entered two variables next to each other, they contain special characters (#, $, or %), are added at the beginning or end of your body text, or are in italics or bold.
  • Template is an exact duplicate of an existing template
