Troubleshoot issues with the integration

Review the following common issues and their solutions:

Connection or authentication errors

Mailchimp temporarily blocks requests

You see an error when connecting your Mailchimp account to Brevo, or the integration fails during setup.

Common error messages:

  • "Forbidden - perhaps check your credentials?"
  • "Error: Forbidden"
  • Authentication or login fails Mailchimp may temporarily block integration requests if it detects unusual activity or high request volumes.

Solution:

  1. Wait 15-30 minutes before trying again.
  2. If the error continues, try again after a few hours.
  3. If the issue persists for more than 24 hours, contact Brevo support.

Contacts not syncing or sync failures

Contacts blocked by Mailchimp compliance rules

Mailchimp blocks contacts from being synced if they are in a compliance state. This includes contacts that were previously unsubscribed, permanently deleted, or marked as invalid.

Common error messages:

  • "Member In Compliance State"
  • "Forgotten Email Not Subscribed" - The email was permanently deleted and cannot be re-imported
  • "Invalid Resource" - The email address appears fake or invalid

Solution:

  1. Review your Mailchimp audience for compliance warnings before syncing.
  2. Correct or remove invalid email addresses.
  3. Contacts permanently deleted from Mailchimp must resubscribe manually. They cannot be re-imported through the integration.

Missing or incorrect contact attributes

Phone number format is invalid

Phone numbers must contain 6 to 16 digits. If a contact in Mailchimp has a phone number outside this format, the contact will not be imported into Brevo.

Category-type attributes are not synced

Category (dropdown) type fields created in Mailchimp are currently not supported in Brevo and will not be imported during synchronization.

Solution:

  • Use supported attribute types (such as text or numeric fields) when syncing data between platforms.
