If a contact unsubscribes from your transactional emails, you may also wish to blocklist them from your email campaigns, and vice-versa. You can achieve this by creating the two automations described below. These will automatically blocklist contacts who unsubscribe from one type of email from the other type as well.
If a contact unsubscribes from transactional emails then blocklist them from email campaigns
In this case, contacts who unsubscribe from your transactional emails will also be automatically blocklisted from your email campaigns. They will no longer receive either your transactional emails or your email campaigns.
Create your automation
- Go to Automations.
- Click Create an automation.
- Click Use the new editor [Beta].
- Click Create automation.
Step 1/2: Let contacts who unsubscribe from transactional emails enter the automation
- From the Trigger tab, drag and drop the Email - Unsubscribed from email list step into the canva.
- In the Event filters section, click Add filter to refine the trigger.
- Click Any type of email.
- Select Transactional email.

Click Add filters.
- Click Confirm trigger.
Step 2/2: Blocklist contacts from email campaigns
- From the Actions tab, drag and drop the Contacts - Blocklist contact step into the canva.
- Select Marketing campaigns.
- Click Save.
Activate the automation
- In the top bar, click Activate automation.
- In the Re-entry after exit section, activate the Allow contact re-entry after exit option.
- Click Activate automation.
Your automation is now active. Contacts will enter it once they unsubscribe from your transactional emails and will then be automatically blocklisted from your email campaigns.
If a contact unsubscribes from email campaigns then blocklist them from transactional emails
In this case, contacts who unsubscribe from your email campaigns will also be automatically blocklisted from your transactional emails (for a specific sender or all senders). They will no longer receive either your email campaigns or your transactional emails.
Create your automation
- Go to Automations.
- Click Create an automation.
- Click Use the new editor [Beta].
- Click Create automation.
Step 1/2: Let contacts who unsubscribe from email campaigns enter the automation
- From the Trigger tab, drag and drop the Email - Unsubscribed from email list step into the canva.
- In the Event filters section, click Add filter to refine the trigger.

Click Any type of email and select Email campaign.
- Click Add filters.
- Click Confirm trigger.
Step 2/2: Blocklist contacts from transactional emails
- From the Actions tab, drag and drop the Contacts - Blocklist contact step into the canva.
- Select Transactional emails.

In the Select senders dropdown, choose the senders to blocklist the contacts from. You can blocklist them from all senders or specific ones.
- Click Save.
Activate the automation
- In the top bar, click Activate automation.
- In the Re-entry after exit section, activate the Allow contact re-entry after exit option.
- Click Activate automation.
Your automation is now active. Contacts will enter it once they unsubscribe from your email campaigns and will then be automatically blocklisted from your transactional emails.
