Insert a custom unsubscribe link in your emails

The unsubscribe link allows your recipients to opt out of your marketing emails by directing them to your Brevo unsubscribe page. It is a mandatory element in all marketing emails, as it ensures compliance and maintains a positive experience for your contacts.

💡 Good to know

By default, email campaigns sent from Brevo include an unsubscribe link in the footer, leading to a standard unsubscribe page. Since this standard unsubscribe page may not match your branding or recipient’s preferred language, we recommend creating and linking to custom unsubscribe pages in your marketing emails.

Linking a custom unsubscribe page to your marketing emails is a two-step process:

  1. Insert the unsubscribe link into your email design.
  2. Choose the custom unsubscribe page where you want to redirect your recipients.

Before you start

Create a custom unsubscribe page for each language in which you write your email campaigns to ensure that your recipients will receive an unsubscribe link that corresponds to your branding and to their language. 1️⃣ Add an unsubscribe link in your campaign design

Once you have created a custom unsubscribe page, you can add your unsubscribe link to your campaign design. The process for adding an unsubscribe link in your campaign design is different based on the editor you are using to build your email:

❗️ Important
Always make sure your unsubscribe link is clearly visible and understandable for your recipients and written in their language.
Drag & Drop Editor HTML and Simple editors

Depending on the way you design your email with the Drag & Drop Editor, the process to add the unsubscribe link differs:

You are using a pre-designed Brevo template

A default unsubscribe link containing the standard unsubscribe page is inserted in the footer of your email design. You can customize the text or section format and colors to match your branding. You simply need to choose which custom unsubscribe page you want to use under the link.

You are creating your email design from scratch

Drag and drop a pre-designed Footer section at the end of your email design that already contains an unsubscribe link. You can also insert a Text content block to which you will add a link. You can customize the sentence and footer design to your tone of voice and branding.

You will then simply need to choose which custom unsubscribe page you want to use under the link.

💡 Good to know
To avoid repeating this step for each of your campaigns, we recommend creating an email template or saving the footer block for each language. That way, you can reuse the email template each time you start the designing step or drag and drop the custom footer in each new campaign design.

2️⃣ Select the custom unsubscribe page to use

After adding the unsubscribe link in your campaign design, you have to choose which custom unsubscribe page the unsubscribe link in your campaign design will take your recipients to.

💡 Good to know
You can choose any option below if you designed your email with the Drag and Drop editor. However, if you designed your email with the HTML or simple editor, you need to choose Option 2.
Option 1: From the email design Option 2: From the campaign creation flow
  1. In your campaign design, click or select the text containing your unsubscribe link.
  2. Click the link icon.
  3. Enter the following information:
    1. Type of link: select Unsubscribe link (global)
    2. Use a custom unsubscribe page: select the unsubscribe page that you want to use
    3. Link title: if not done already, enter the text of your link
  4. Click Update.

❓Can I change or delete the unsubscribe link?

Having an unsubscribe link in your email campaign is mandatory. It is essential for your contacts and the proper functioning of your campaign. You can change it, but you cannot delete it.

💡 Good to know
If you delete the unsubscribe link from your email campaign, Brevo will add it back automatically when sending it. We do not recommend deleting the unsubscribe link to use the default one, as it may not lead to an unsubscribe page in your recipients' language and won't match your branding. We highly recommend adding your own unsubscribe link to your email campaigns and using custom unsubscribe pages.
