Price drop alert - Send automated price drop alerts to re-engage customers

❗️ Important
Price drop alerts are currently supported only for users with an active ecommerce platform integration or an API integration syncing their ecommerce data to Brevo.

Automatically notify customers when the price of a product they've viewed or added to their cart drops. Re-engage interested shoppers at the right moment and turn price drops into conversions.

How price drop alerts work

When the price of a product drops and meets the minimum threshold defined in the trigger, the automation checks the following conditions before sending a notification:

  • The contact viewed the product or added it to their cart within the last 90 days. If not, they are not notified. This period is not customizable.
  • The contact has not already purchased the product within this period. If they have, they are automatically excluded.
  • The contact has not already received a price drop alert for this product within the re-entry window. If they have, they are excluded until the window resets. However, if other products they viewed or added to their cart also drop in price, they can still receive alerts for those.

If all conditions are met, the automation waits 5 minutes to batch near-simultaneous price changes, then sends the price drop email.

Before you start

💡 Good to know
If you don't use a plugin, you can connect your store via the Brevo API. Contact our support team or your dedicated Customer Success Manager by creating a ticket from your account for guidance.

Connect your store using one of our compatible plugins and sync your eCommerce data to the Brevo eCommerce dashboard. Once the sync is complete, your product catalog and tracking events (price_drop, view_product, and checkout_started) will be available in Brevo.

Check the dedicated article for your plugin to learn how to connect your store and sync your data:

Select the pre-built automation

  1. Go to Automations > Workflows.
  2. Click Create an automation.
  3. From the Pre-built automation type dropdown, select All.
  4. Select the Price drop alert pre-built automation.
  5. Under Email template language, select the language in which the default email template in this automation will be generated.
  6. Click Create automation.

You'll be guided through three steps to configure the automation.

Step 1/3: Configure the price drop trigger

Configure your price drop threshold, target audience, and, optionally, restrict the automation to specific products. Brevo checks each price change against these criteria before triggering the automation.

  1. Under Minimum price drop, select how the threshold is calculated:
    • Amount: the price must drop by at least a fixed amount (e.g., $10). The currency used is the one defined in your Settings > E-commerce > Store currency.
    • Percentage: the price must drop by at least a percentage of the original price (e.g., 15%).
  2. Enter the minimum value in the field (amount or percentage, based on your selection).

  3. Under Audience, select who should receive your notification:
    • Contacts that viewed the product
    • Contacts that added the product to their cart
    • Contacts that viewed the product OR added it to their cart

  4. (Optional) Under Product filters, click Add filter to restrict the automation to specific products. You can filter by product attributes such as SKU, ID, URL, or price, or set a minimum stock quantity. Contacts will only enter the automation if the product they viewed or added to their cart matches these filters.

    ➡️  For example
Send a price drop notification only for products that belong to a specific brand, or whose SKU starts with "23".

  5. Click Next.
❗️ Important
If your store uses product variants (e.g., different sizes or colors of the same product), keep in mind the following:
  • If the price drops on a specific variant, only contacts who viewed or added that variant to their cart will be notified.
  • If the price drops on a parent product, only contacts who viewed or added the parent product to their cart will be notified, but not those who interacted with its variants.

Step 2/3: Review the wait step

The pre-built automation includes a Time delay step with a 5-minute wait before the notification email. This short delay batches near-simultaneous price changes into a single notification, so contacts do not receive duplicate alerts if a product price fluctuates multiple times in quick succession.

💡 Good to know
We recommend keeping this step as is. You can adjust the delay duration if needed, but removing it may result in contacts receiving multiple notifications for the same product.

Step 3/3: Personalize the price drop email

Brevo provides a default email template for your price drop alerts, pre-filled with variables for the product's image, name, new price, old price, description, and page URL. We recommend you edit it to fit your brand and better engage your customers.

Design the email template

  1. Under the default email template, click Edit.
  2. Edit the template using the drag-and-drop editor. For example, you can insert a product feed to display other products the contact recently viewed, or add a unique coupon code they can use to complete their purchase.
  3. Once you're done, click Use this design in automation to save and return to the automation editor.

Configure the email settings

  1. In the What event data to display section, the price_drop event that triggered the automation is automatically selected, so the email template can be populated with data from the products that dropped in price. No action is needed for this step.

  2. Configure the settings of your email:
    • Subject line and preview text
    • Sender email address and name
    • Additional settings, including email sending time, email copy, reply-to address, tags, attachment, update profile form, unsubscribe form, and more.
  3. Once you're done, click Save.

Activate and test the automation

Before going live, we recommend testing your automation to make sure the email is sent correctly and the product variables are populated as expected.

  1. On your eCommerce store, create a dummy product.
  2. In the trigger, add a Product filter to restrict the automation to your dummy product only (e.g., by name, SKU, or ID). This prevents real contacts from entering the automation during your test.

  3. Activate the automation:
    1. In the automation editor, click Activate automation.
    2. (Optional) Modify the re-entry window to specify the number of days each contact must wait before receiving another price drop alert for the same product.
    3. Click Activate automation.

  4. On your website, browse to the dummy product page or add it to your cart. Make sure you are logged in to your website or tracked by the Brevo tracker.

    💡 Good to know
The contact used for testing must exist in Brevo and be subscribed to marketing emails. Otherwise, the automation will not send the email.
  5. Lower the price of the dummy product by at least the minimum amount defined in your trigger, then wait for the delay defined in the Time delay step.
  6. Check that the contact received the price drop email and that the product variables (image, name, old price, new price) are correctly populated.
  7. Once your test is complete, remove the Product filter from the trigger so the automation applies to all eligible products.
