Send geofencing notifications to wallet pass holders

Geofencing lets you automatically notify wallet pass holders when they are near one of your physical locations. When a customer approaches a store, their device displays a push notification directly on their lock screen, without requiring any action on their part.

Before you start

  • You need to have created a wallet pass.
➡️ To learn more, check our dedicated article Create a wallet pass.
  • The proximity notification message is only displayed on Apple Wallet. Google Wallet does not currently support geofencing notifications.

💡 Best practices for Brevo Wallet notifications

❗️ Important
Use notifications strategically. Sending too many notifications can lead customers to delete your pass. Focus on timely, valuable messages that enhance the customer experience.
  • Keep notification messages short and clear
  • Include a clear call-to-action when appropriate
  • Send notifications at appropriate times based on your customer's time zone
  • Test notifications before sending them to your entire audience
  • Track notification engagement to optimize future messages

Step 1: Add your store locations

Before you can connect a location to a pass, you need to save it in Brevo:

  1. Click the account drop-down and go to Settings > Marketing > Locations.

  2. Click Add a location
  3. In the Add a location dialog, fill in the following fields:

    • Name: Enter a name that helps you identify the location, for example, Paris flagship store.
    • (Optional) Description: Add any additional information about the location.
    • Longitude and Latitude: Enter the geographic coordinates of your store.
  4. Click Continue to save the location.
💡 Good to know
Alternatively, you can add locations directly from the Wallet pass editor, in the Geofence tab.

Step 2: Connect locations to your pass

Once your locations are saved, you need to connect them to a specific pass. This determines which stores trigger a notification for that pass.

  1. Go to Marketing > Wallet and access the wallet pass to which you want to connect your locations.
  2. Access the Geofence tab and click Connect locations.

  3. In the Select locations field, select one or more locations to connect to this pass. You can select as many locations as needed.
  4. In the Notification message field, enter the default message that pass holders will see when they are near one of the selected locations.

    💡 Good to know
The notification message you enter here applies to all selected locations by default. You can set a different message for each location individually in the next step.
  5. (Optional) Personalize your message using contact or loyalty attributes by clicking the { } Add variable icon.
  6. Click Connect [X] locations to confirm.

(Optional) Step 3: Customize the notification message per location

If you want to display a different notification message for each store, for example, a specific offer for your Paris store and a different one for your New York store, you can edit the message at the location level:

  1. After connecting your locations, go to the Geofence tab and find the location you want to customize.
  2. Click the edit icon next to the location.

  3. In the Edit notification message dialog, update the Proximity message field with the message specific to that location.

  4. Click Save changes.
  5. Repeat these steps for each location that needs a specific message.

Congratulations! Now each store location will trigger a different message for the users of this wallet pass:

Store specific message

Paris flagship store You're near our Paris store. Even the Eiffel Tower does stretches. Come join us.
New-York flagship store Our NYC store is nearby. In a city that never sleeps, you need a good yoga mat more than anyone.
Madrid flagship store ¡Hola! You're near our Madrid store. More flexible than flamenco? Come prove it.

Manage your locations

To manage your locations, click the account drop-down and go to Settings > Marketing > Locations. You can view, edit, and delete your saved locations at any time.
