Brevo plugin for WooCommerce - Configure the plugin settings

đź’ˇ Good to know
The current documented plugin version is 4.0.59, compatible with WordPress 4.3 or higher and tested up to 6.8.3. If you're using another version of the plugin or WordPress, some features or settings may be missing or appear differently.

When you connect your store, the guided setup configures some basic settings, such as how your contacts are imported and your email permissions. Use the plugin settings to change them, and to set up other features such as product alerts, transactional emails, and SMS.

Before you start

Install the Brevo plugin for WooCommerce and complete the guided setup.

➡️ To learn more, check our dedicated article Brevo plugin for WooCommerce - Install the plugin on your website.

Access the plugin settings

To access the plugin settings:

  1. In Brevo, click the account dropdown and select Integrations > My integrations.
  2. Next to the WooCommerce integration, click the three-dot icon and select Edit settings.

Change how your WooCommerce contacts are synced

Change your contact sync settings

If you already set this up during the guided setup, you can edit these settings here. Changes only apply to contacts that are added or updated after you save.

  1. From the plugin settings, click Contact Synchronization.
  2. Activate Sync your store contacts to Brevo.
  3. (Optional) Activate Import contacts as subscribed if you want all WooCommerce contacts, including guest checkout customers, to be imported as subscribed for email marketing.

    ❗️ Important
Activate Import contacts as subscribed only if your WooCommerce contacts have given clear, verifiable consent to receive marketing emails. If you're unsure, keep this option deactivated so that only customers who subscribe through your checkout opt-in are marked as subscribed.

    woocommerce_contact-sync_active_import-as-subscribed_en-us.png

  4. Select the Brevo list where your WooCommerce contacts should be added:

If "Import contacts as subscribed" is activated

Contacts are added by default to a list named WooCommerce in the Integrations folder. Click Select another list to choose or create another list.

If "Import contacts as subscribed" is deactivated

Subscribed contacts are added by default to WooCommerce in the Integrations folder.
    woocommerce_contact-sync_deactivated°select-list_en-us.png

Contacts who aren't subscribed are added to WooCommerce_NonSubscribers. This list cannot be changed.

  5. From Subscribe event, choose when a WooCommerce contact should receive a subscription confirmation email:

    • Order created: Immediately after the contact places an order.
    • Order completed: When the order is marked as Completed in WooCommerce.

    woocommerce_contact-sync_subscribe-event_en-us.png

  6. By default, Autoassign store contacts' attributes to Brevo contact attributes is activated. This maps the email address, first name, and last name to the corresponding Brevo attributes. To map additional attributes manually, deactivate this option and click Map attributes.

  7. Click Save.

To learn which attributes the plugin adds to your contacts, check our dedicated section in the article Brevo plugin for WooCommerce - Install the plugin on your website.

Add or edit the opt-in checkbox at checkout

WooCommerce doesn't have a native opt-in feature for email marketing. With the plugin, you can choose to add a marketing opt-in checkbox to your checkout page so customers can subscribe to your email marketing when they place an order.

If you already set this up during the guided setup, you can edit it here.

  1. From Contact Synchronization, activate Display opt-in checkbox at checkout.
  2. Optionally edit the Opt-in field label.
  3. Under Opt-in Checkbox Default Location, choose where the checkbox should appear (below the Billing info, Order info, or Terms and Conditions section).
    woocommerce_contact-sync_opt-in-checkbox_en-us.png
  4. Click Save.
đź’ˇ Good to know
You can change your subscription confirmation emails to send a confirmation email to contacts who subscribe using this checkbox.

Re-sync your contacts

You can manually re-sync your contacts if some data failed to synchronize or if you want to update contact information in Brevo.

  1. In Brevo, click the account dropdown and select Integrations > My integrations.
  2. Next to the WooCommerce integration, click the three-dot icon and select Sync details.
  3. Choose how you want to re-sync:
    • Click Sync now to synchronize all data.
    • Click the reload icon 🔄 next to Customers to synchronize only customers.
      woocommerce_sync-again_en-us.png
  4. (Optional) Activate Preserve contacts' existing subscription statuses in Brevo if you want to keep their current subscription statuses unchanged.

    ❗️ Important
A re-sync sets the subscription status of your existing contacts again based on your current settings, instead of keeping the status they have in Brevo. Activate this option to keep their current statuses.
  5. Click Sync now.

đź’ˇ Good to know
If some data failed to sync, click Download the error report to identify and troubleshoot the issue.

Contact sync FAQs

How are new WooCommerce contacts synced to Brevo?

When a visitor submits their email address on your WooCommerce store, such as during sign-up or checkout, they are automatically synced to Brevo. Their subscription status and attributes are determined by your contact synchronization settings.

Simply entering an email address into a field without submitting it does not create a contact in Brevo.

During checkout, an entered email address is captured and stored as blocklisted. Its final subscription status is determined once the order is placed and depends on whether the customer opted in.

❗️ Important
If Import contacts as subscribed is activated, new customers who place an order are synced to Brevo and marked as subscribed, even if they don't opt in at checkout.
What happens if a contact subscribes after being synced?

Subscription status is kept in sync between WooCommerce and Brevo. If a contact subscribes later through Brevo, the change is reflected in WooCommerce. If a contact subscribes later through WooCommerce, the change is reflected in Brevo.

What happens if a contact unsubscribes from Brevo?

The contact is blocklisted in Brevo and their WC_SUBSCRIPTION_STATUS attribute is updated to unsubscribed. Nothing changes on the WooCommerce side.

What happens if a contact is deleted from one app?

Deleting a contact in one app does not delete them from the other app. They remain there unless you delete them manually.

Change your subscription confirmation emails

Use these settings to send a confirmation email to customers who subscribe to your email marketing through the checkout opt-in checkbox. You can choose between:

  • Double confirmation email: Sends a double opt-in email and requires customers to click the confirmation link before their subscription is confirmed.
  • Simple confirmation email: Sends a confirmation email without requiring the customer to click a confirmation link.

If you already set this up during the guided setup, you can edit it here. Changes only apply to contacts added after you save.

To change your subscription confirmation emails:

  1. From the plugin settings, click Subscription Confirmation.
  2. Activate Use Brevo subscription confirmation options to manage opt-in settings.
  3. Select if you want to send double or simple confirmation emails.

  4. Configure your subscription confirmation emails. Use the following tabs to view instructions for each setting:

Double confirmation email Simple confirmation email

    4. Click Save.

Contacts who have subscribed but haven't clicked the confirmation link have WC_DOUBLE_OPTED set to pending. Once they confirm, the status is updated to indicate that the double opt-in has been completed.

Send WooCommerce transactional emails using Brevo SMTP

You can use Brevo SMTP to send your WooCommerce transactional emails, monitor their performance, and track deliverability metrics directly in Brevo.

Activate Brevo SMTP

  1. From the plugin settings, click SMTP for transactional mailing.
  2. Activate Enable Brevo to send WooCommerce email.
  3. In the Select column, select the WooCommerce events that should be handled by Brevo SMTP. If you don't select an event, that email continues to be sent directly from WooCommerce.

Choose your email templates

For each selected event, you can choose between Brevo email templates or WooCommerce default templates. Use the following tabs to view instructions for each option:

Brevo templates Default WooCommerce templates
❗️ Important

  1. For each selected event, choose Brevo as the template option.
  2. In Choose Template, select the Brevo template you want to use.

Test SMS messages are deducted from your SMS credits.
