When designing your email with the Drag & Drop email editor, it is built using two main elements: sections and content blocks. Understanding the difference between them will help you create clean and professional email layouts faster.
🏗️ About sections
A section is a group of content blocks or a structural block made up of one or more columns. You can think of a section as the layout framework of your email; it defines how and where your content will be displayed.
You can add sections to your design in several ways:
-
Create your own section
Drag and drop content blocks directly into your email canvas to automatically create a new section. -
Use a pre-designed section
Go to Content > Sections to choose from ready-to-use layouts that include images, text, and columns you can customize.
➡️ To learn more about pre-made sections, check our dedicated article Save time designing your emails with pre-designed sections. -
Save and reuse your own section
Reuse any of your sections created in previous emails by saving them beforehand. This is perfect for recurring layouts such as headers, footers, or product showcases.
➡️ To learn more about saved sections, check our dedicated article Save sections for reuse in your email designs.
🖍️ Customize your section
Once you’ve added a section, you can customize its layout and style by clicking the section to open its settings in the left panel:
These settings help you control how your content is displayed in your email:
Setting |
Description |
|---|---|
| Layout | Choose how your content is aligned vertically inside the section (top, middle, or bottom). |
| Background | Set a background color, image, or URL. You can also apply it to the full width of your email. |
| Spacing | Adjust the space between columns, and manage the padding (inside space) and margin (outside space) around your section. |
| Content visibility | Decide whether to show or hide the section based on your recipient’s device or actions. ➡️ To learn more, check our dedicated article Show or hide content in your emails (Content visibility). |
| Repeatable content | Automatically repeat items in your section, for example, to display a list of products or events. ➡️ To learn more, check our dedicated article Repeat a list of items in your emails (Repeatable content). |
❓ FAQs on sections
How can I add, resize, or delete a column?
Once you've added a content block within your email canvas, you can add or resize columns by clicking the section and using the sliders to move them and the + buttons to add columns. You can also delete a column by clicking it and clicking the trash icon:
How can I duplicate or move a section?
To duplicate a section, select it and click the duplicate icon . You can then move the section by selecting and dragging it to the desired location. Alternatively, you can use the move icon
or up ↑ and down ↓ icons to move the section one notch up or down.
How do I know if I inserted a content block within a section?
To know if a content block is within a section or not, click the section and check where the borders of the section stop, and which content blocks it contains. When inserting a content block into a section, if the insertion line fills the entire space of your canvas, this means that the content block will be inserted as an independent section. If you want to insert it into a section, ensure that the insertion line is placed under another content block and does not fill the entire space of the canvas.
How can I put columns side by side on a mobile device?
On smaller screens, you may prefer to change how your content is displayed to improve readability or reduce space. To adjust the content orientation, select the section you want to edit and switch to mobile view from the top navigation bar. In the left panel, under Layout, choose whether you want your content to appear vertically or horizontally. Depending on your content, you may also be able to swap content if needed.
➡️ To learn more about the mobile view, check our dedicated article Optimize your email design for mobile devices (mobile-responsive).
How can I visually separate sections with a break line?
To visually separate different sections, you can use a Divider block that will act as an independent section. You can change its color, style, spacing, and thickness.
🧱 About content blocks
A content block represents a specific type of content that you can add to your email. These are the building elements inside your sections — each block contains a specific kind of content such as text, images, or buttons.
You can find all content blocks in the Content > Blocks tab and simply drag & drop them into a section. The available content blocks are:

The Title and Text blocks allow you to add written content to your email:

Both offer formatting options—font style, size, color, alignment, and links—to maintain clear, on-brand messaging.
➡️ To learn more about the Title and Text content blocks, check our dedicated article About the Title and Text content blocks.
| The Image block allows you to add visuals to your email—like event photos, icons, and illustrations. | The Button block allows you to add a clear call-to-action (CTA) to your email—like Shop Now, Register, or Learn More. You can customize the text, colors, size, alignment, and link destination to match your design and drive clicks. |
➡️ To learn more about the Button content block, check our dedicated article(s) Insert effective calls-to-action (CTAs) in your email designs (button).
| The Dynamic content block allows you to use a single email layout to create multiple personalized emails for each recipient, making it feel like a one-to-one conversation. For example, create a single email layout for your order confirmation emails that will be automatically filled with your recipients' information at the time of sending, such as their order total and list of purchased products. |
➡️ To learn more about how to use the Dynamic content block, check our dedicated article Understand the dynamic content block (Data feeds and event data).
| The Logo block allows you to insert your brand logo into the email—typically placed at the top. This ensures your recipients can instantly recognize who the message is from, reinforcing your brand identity and increasing trust. You can adjust the logo’s size and alignment to fit your layout. |
➡️ To learn more about how to use the Logo content block, check our dedicated article Save your brand's assets in the brand library.

➡️ To learn more about the HTML content block, check our dedicated article Limitations when using HTML for your email campaigns.

➡️ To learn more about the Divider content block, check our dedicated section Visually separate sections with a line.
| The Product block allows you to showcase products from your online store—no copying needed. Create branded emails displaying your products exactly as they appear on your website. |
➡️ To learn more about the Product content block, check our dedicated article Insert products from your online store into your emails with the product block.

➡️ To learn more about the Navigation content block, check our dedicated article(s) Add a table of contents and anchor links in your email.

🖍️ Customize your content blocks
Once you’ve added your content blocks, you can customize them by clicking the content blocks to open their settings in the left panel:
